Gold medal winner for The 2017 Australian Food Awards
We are so stoked to have been awarded GOLD winner for the 2017 Australian Food Awards (AFA) for not just one of our products but three! Our winning products included our Freeze Dried Riberry Powder, Freeze Dried Davidson Plum Powder as well as our Lime, Coconut, Macadamia Burst Paleo Granola!
The Awards recognise premium Australian products and produce across eight major categories, in which we featured (and Won!) under ‘Pantry Goods’ for Best cereal and Muesli , alongside the ‘Best Nut and Dried Fruit’ Category.
The criteria vary across the different categories but they focus on the sensory and the technical aspects of the product and its appearance (eg. taste, flavour, aroma, texture).
Our products can be used in a variety of ways, from Smoothie toppers, to marinades, jams and even ice-cream!
Our first winning Lime, Coconut, Macadamia burst granola overflows with Superfood stars. Our main star is the zesty Finger Lime which has three times the Vitamin C of a mandarin, as well as plenty of folate, potassium and Vitamin E. Supporting stars include Kakadu Plum, which boasts the highest level of Vitamin C of any fruit in the world and Quandong, which is bursting with magnesium, calcium, iron and zinc. Throw in some proud Australian grown macadamias for good measure and you’ve got yourself an award-winning cast.
Our second winner, Freeze Dried Riberry was traditionally eaten by the Aboriginal people, in which the Riberry was one of the first fruits consumed as jams, jellies and cordials by the early colonists. Riberry has three times the folate found in a blueberry, is rich in manganese, packed with minerals, dense in antioxidants, with antidiabetic properties and the capacity to reduce obesity. Eaten raw, the gorgeous clusters of berry-like fruits are thick, pithy and sometimes slightly sour. The Riberry has an aroma of sweet, spiced tea, with musk and bush honey. Its flavour is tart and astringent with some sweetness.
Our final winner , the gorgeous Freeze Dried Davidson Plum is a favourite amongst our customers! The strikingly sumptuous, deep, dark purple fruit with blood red flesh, boasts a soft juicy pulp and is one of the most nutritionally powerful native Australian fruits. Early settlers certainly would not have appreciated the high levels of antioxidants contained in the fruit, yet picked the plums for use in jams and sauces.
The Davidson Plum contains significantly more lutein than an avocado (thought to be the primary source of lutein). Lutein is a carotenoid vitamin that plays an important role in eye health, improving symptoms in atrophic age-related macular degeneration by inhibiting inflammation.
