Australian Food Award winners…

24/08/2018

The Australian Superfood Company recently cleaned up at the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria’s Australian Food Awards (AFA).

The AFA is Australia’s leading national food awards program, giving producers the opportunity to benchmark their products, establish credentials and provide differentiation in the market. All of the entries are blind tasted so it’s completely confidential and judging is of the highest integrity. The medals awarded to winning products are a national brand seal of excellence, so it’s an incredible honour to be chosen.

At The Australian Superfood Co. we’re extremely passionate about creating awareness of Australian flavours and increasing accessibility and affordability. We believe that native flavours should be a huge part of our national cuisine, not only because they’re so unique and exceptional. By increasing demand for this produce, we are also able to provide the Indigenous communities who grow and harvest them with greater support, so it’s a win-win situation.

Our new Davidson Plum extract was the superstar scoring a gold medal with its stand out qualities being the colour, flavour and concept overall. Our product tests have shown that the nutrient content of our extracts is astounding, which is particularly exciting given the amazing properties of these ingredients!

For instance, Davidson Plum is an excellent source of potassium, which helps our muscles to move, our nerves to work and our kidneys to filter out toxins. It also contains Vitamin E and Zinc, which promote glowing, youthful looking skin. Davidson Plum is an antioxidant powerhouse, packed with minerals, containing high levels of anthocyanin, which is believed to improve cognitive function and protect against certain cancers and heart disease. High in lutein and calcium, Davidson Plum is sure to keep skin, hair and nails in top condition as well as promote eye health.

Our Finger Lime Freeze Dried Powder and Finger Lime Extract also made us proud by picking up silver medals at the RASV’s Australian Food Awards. Did you know that Finger Limes are rich in folate, potassium and Vitamin E? They have the zestiest flavour and contain three times the Vitamin C in a mandarin.

With a whole host of nutrients, not only is our Quandong Freeze Dried Powder a superfood, this taste sensation is also a winner, picking up silver this year at the AFA! Quandong has twice the Vitamin C of an orange, plus Vitamin E, folate, magnesium and calcium. It’s a rich source of iron and zinc as well as phenolic-based antioxidants, which boost the immune system, reduce inflammation and protect against diseases including cancer, cardiovascular disease and Alzheimer’s disease. Lastly, Quandong also contains Rutin, which reduces free radicals and works with Vitamin C to strengthen capillaries, reduce dark circles under the eyes and strengthen the skin from the affects of aging.

We had a couple of bronze winners too! Our Desert Tribe Tropical Raw Bar was one of them. Containing Kakadu Plum and Quandong as well as a bunch of tropical flavours, we’re not surprised the judges loved this one! (Perhaps they were dreaming of summer). Our Kakadu Plum Freeze Dried Powder obviously scored a prize too… with the highest recorded levels of Vitamin C (up to 100 times that of an orange) how could it lose? No doubt it’s aroma of stewed apples and pears helped too. Kakadu Plum is loaded with antioxidants making it 5.2 times more potent than the blueberry and guess what? To increase the support we’re able to provide to Indigenous Communities, we’ve made it more affordable! Click here to grab some now!
