Australian SuperFood Co wins Lion’s Den at Fine Foods Australia

An emerging food company specialising in using native Australian food ingredients has won the 2017 Lion’s Den competition at this year’s Fine Foods event in Sydney.

The Australian Superfood Co. won the competition that saw six emerging businesses present company pitches to a panel of experts, similar to the television show The Shark Tank.

As the winner, the Australian Superfood Co. will get to participate in the Foodservice Suppliers Association Australia’s ‘Understanding Foodservice’ program.

The Australian Superfood Company sells granola, raw food bars, dried fruits, powders, herbs and spices. All include native Australian food ingredients.

Former dietitian for the North Melbourne Football Club, Hayley Blieden, established The Australian Superfood Company after thinking about what sustained indigenous Australians centuries ago.

“We’d like to see wattleseed, finger lime, kakadu plum, lemon myrtle and many more native Australian ingredients sitting in all Australian pantries alongside cinnamon, clove and turmeric,” Blieden said.

Other finalists who entered the Lion’s Den included Kind Provisions, Kakadu Plum Co, Noah Facial Recgnition, Ordermentum and Nom Noms World Food. Judges included representatives from Unilever, Food Innovation Australia Limited, Nestle Professional and Food Industry Foresight.

The Lion’s Den was hosted as part of Fine Foods Australia 2017, a trade exhibition for the food industry held annually.
