Native Ingredients are Showing up in More Than Just Food

The trend towards paying more attention to self-care, putting effort into environmental consciousness and the push to go greener, extends across more than just food and beverage. And while we care about what we put into our bodies, there is another dimension too: we need to care about what we put on our bodies as well.

Australian Native Ingredients boast an impressive array of health properties, including high levels of antioxidants and Vitamin C, a source of iron, zinc and Vitamin E.  And while these benefits are well-understood for health and wellbeing, there is also research supporting the benefits of antioxidants for skin health.

Antioxidants function by neutralizing free radicals in the body. They act at a cellular level to eliminate the compounds we accumulate through exposure to toxins and chemicals, as well as those that build up through natural body processes like energy generation. Antioxidants, however, can also work topically on the skin: the right ones, can offset free radicals that may otherwise damage collagen or alter skin composition (aka your complexion). The body can manufacture much of these antioxidant needs on its own, but we can boost our quantity through application and food ingestion.

According to one dermatologist, David H. McDaniel, “antioxidants are the foundation of skin rejuvenation.” And with research showing their ability  to reduce inflammation and their increasing presence in anti-aging products, the need for reliable antioxidant sources through food is paramount.

And this is where we see native foods start to play a dominating role. The Australian Superfood Co native ingredients, including Kakadu Plum, and Davidson Plum are both high sources of antioxidants. Indeed, Kakadu’s potent source of Vitamin C allows it to do double duty, with the Vitamin offering nutritional benefits and working its antioxidant magic!

But the native ingredients aren’t beneficial in beauty solely for their nutritional properties. Wattleseed, coming from the Australia Acacia plant, is desirable in beauty products due to its more abrasive nature, that lets it work as an all-natural exfoliant. Combined with enzymatic rich products such as fruits, these ingredients create a reaction that is favourable towards skin cleansing, not to mention also helps moderate skin pH. Changes in the acidity of the skin, and more importantly, what’s under the skin in the body, are often at the root of issues related to skin breakouts or blemished complexion.

The Australian Superfood Co understands the value of native ingredients on the inside and the outside. As the first step into an industry filled with potential, we have partnered with Aspar to create the Wattleseed and Walnut Resurfacing Scrub. This unique blend of wattleseed and walnut, combines with papaya and almond to offer a rejuvenating experience that helps remove dead skin cells from the skin’s outer layer, while simultaneously offering a protective oil from the almonds.

We’re passionate about offering you the best ingredients to put in your body and energize you from the inside out. But we also care about what happens from the outside in.
